The redcurrant is a close relative of the blackcurrant and a popular garden plant. It can be found almost all over Europe. However, it is only rarely found in its wild form in damp forest soils. The translucent red fruits have a tart, refreshing taste and can be eaten raw, used for desserts and cakes or made into juice, jellies or jams.
