Augustinus Bader tinted lip balm in three sheer shades
Augustinus Bader The Tinted Lip Balm, sold by its maker as The Tinted Balm, is a tinted lip balm in three sheer, buildable shades. It was developed with Sofia Coppola, for daily hydration with a sheer wash of color.
The shades are labelled Shade 1, Shade 2 and Shade 3. The base formula is the same one used in the untinted lip balm, with sheer tints added.

Its hydration figures come from trials of The Lip Balm, the untinted version. In a 24-hour trial of 20 participants aged 18 to 65, the maker reports hydration improved by 31.4% in 15 minutes and lasted 24 hours. In a 28-day trial of 20 participants, lip hydration improved by 15.9% and lip plumpness by 15.1%.
For the tinted version itself, three 4-week consumer perception studies of 50, 50 and 48 people aged 18 to 70, one per shade, found 98% agreed lips felt nourished, replenished and renewed, 96% that lips stayed hydrated for hours, 92% that lips looked softer, smoother and plumper, 91% that the tint was buildable and long-lasting, and 95% that it applied smoothly without a greasy or sticky residue.
How to wear it
Apply to lips as desired. In a full routine it goes on last, after cleanser, serum, moisturizer and eye cream.

Vegetable oil, candelilla wax and shea butter lead the ingredient list.
The formula is vegan and free from fragrance, parabens, sulfates, mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin, heavy metals, talc, silicones and DEA. Each shade uses different colorants, so check the ingredient list for your shade if you avoid a specific dye. It is formulated for all skin types, including sensitive. With sensitive skin, check the ingredients first and ask your doctor if you have concerns.
