This shaving soap is L'Original by Martin de Candre, it is a hard, air dried soap that is superbly scented with Rosemary, Lavender and Mint. It comes well presented in a beechwood bowl meaning you can lather up straight from here - no need to spend money on a lathering bowl.
The soap comes exactly as you see in the photographs, overfilled and gift wrapped in fancy paper. The utterly majestic scent of the soap oozes through the paper wrapping teasing you to use it right away. Expect 6-8 months daily use from this monster size soap.
Martin de Candre is a small, artisan soap maker based in L'Ancienne, rural France. Using natural, vegetable oils and essential oils for scent. Martin de Candre Shaving Soaps are thought by many to be the very best in the world, I can appreciate why they say this. It's not always the case that the more you spend the better the quality is but it is certainly the case with Martin de Candre L'Original Shaving Soap.
The scent and the lather are stronger and richer than other brands and the lather seems to stay in the brush a lot better than other soaps, you will also notice that the soap retains heat leading to a better shave.

An all around great soap that lasts and lasts. Plus, the brain bowl looks pretty wild!
This is a good shaving soap. The scent is nice-not strong, but pleasant. As expected, the bowl was overfilled and the only negative I can give is that the pile-up is so chunky it’s a little more challenging to load my brush. The soap is thirsty (IMO) but not difficult to lather. Just don’t thin it out by adding too much water and it provides a really good cushion for shaving. Re-lather and make multiple passes because there is not a lot of residual slickness and you will get a really nice shave. This is a hard soap and it’s going to last a looooonng time. That being said, in spite of the higher initial cost, this is going to be an economical soap on a per shave basis.
It exceeded my expectations! Looks oil, easy to lather, pleasant scent, great performance, seems like it’s going to last forever and great value if you look at cost per shave!
MdC has become my favorite soap. This soap will not be used for some time as I am still working through the 130 g size. I liked it so much, I ordered this with at least 100 shaves to go on the other one. I find the soap to be slick, cushiony, great smell, and very clean feeling.
