Hevea wood is a type of wood obtained from the Pará rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) and is commonly known as rubber wood. While the use of spoons made from precious metals was common among royalty and the wealthy during the Middle Ages, spoons made from pewter became more affordable and therefore more accessible to the general population in the 14th century. It is unclear when rubberwood spoons specifically came into use, as the history of wooden spoons is quite extensive and spans many cultures throughout history. However, wooden spoons have been used for centuries due to their availability, low cost, and ease of carving.
Hevea is considered one of the most environmentally-friendly woods as new trees are planted every 25-30 years and are only felled when they've stopped producing latex (used in the production of rubber).Hand-wash Only.
