Moisten your face with warm water. This helps soften your beard and prepares your skin for shaving.

Apply a small amount of shaving cream to your fingertips or a shaving brush.

Create a lather. If using your fingers, massage the cream onto your damp face to create a lather. If using a brush, whip the cream into a lather in a shaving bowl or mug with a small amount of warm water.

Apply the lather to your face. Spread the lather evenly over the area you intend to shave.

Shave with a sharp razor. Shave in the direction of hair growth for the first pass. For a closer shave, you may do a second pass against the grain (be cautious to avoid irritation).

Rinse your face with cool water. This helps remove any remaining shaving cream.
