For decades, boar bristle shaving brushes have been the choice of master barbers in Italy, and for good reason. Boar bristle shaving brushes are both effective at creating good lather and inexpensive, they won't break your wallet. Once broken-in the tips become just as soft as premium badger hair. The key with boar bristle brushes is to give them a good soak before use, this allows the bristles to become hydrated and pliable and prevents them from breaking. The one downfall of standard boar bristle brushes is the break-in period can be fairly long, anywhere from 20-30 uses. During the break-in period, boar bristle brushes can have a noticeable "funk" to them and the bristles will be a little scratchy at the beginning until the ends of the bristle begin to split with use.
